Related and Relevant Standards
Given the drive to implement common core standards throughout the nation, it is essential that fine arts educators become aware of the overlap of standards from other disciplines that interconnect with our own Georgia Performance Standards. As music educators, we are promoting literacy; we are providing opportunities for our students to use technology, and our classrooms provide opportunities to connect with core K-5 standards. Music skills are not taught in isolation. For the special education student, it is even more important to allow opportunity for integration of skills in a safe environment.
